About this nanny job
Hello, we are looking for a nanny to help with our two kids, ages 3 and 5. This would be a position that is a mix of nanny and house manager. Ideally, we’d have someone start with us in mid/late August, but we are somewhat flexible on the exact timing. We live on Capitol Hill near Garfield Park. We also have a very sweet (but large) dog, Franklin.
Our kids will both be in school this fall (Kindergarten and Pre-K 3). Even though both kids are in school, we are looking for someone who can help us full time—approximately 35 hours a week but open to a flexible schedule, times to be varied each day. For example, our school-year schedule may look something like:
Monday 1:30 pm-6:30 pm
Tuesday 11 am-7 pm
Wednesday 11 am-7 pm
Thursday 11 am-7 pm
Friday 1:30 pm-6:00 pm
On Mondays and Fridays, you would help with meal prep in the afternoon before picking up both kids from school and watching them until we get home from work. They love to be outside and go to the park, etc. You would also help start their dinner/evening routine. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays, you could come mid-morning and help with some things around the house while they are at school—meal prep/cooking, kids laundry, light housekeeping/straightening up, small errands, etc. And then you’d pick them up from school in the afternoons and watch them until we are home. Occasionally, we may need help with walking them to school in the morning and would ask you to come at 8:00 am.
On the days when the kids are off from school, they would need full day care (8:00 am-6:30 pm). They would also need care on early dismissal days in the afternoons. We will know in advance when those days are and can plan so you know what the schedule will be.
During the summer, we would keep a 40/hour week, but you would likely have the kids more during the day, working around camp/activity schedules. We would prefer someone with a car and who is comfortable driving the kids occasionally (we belong to a pool out in Virginia, and it would be great if you could take them there in the summer.)
I think the main thing is being open and flexible with hours that may vary some each week—but again, we are committed to having someone work full time.
