About this nanny job
If you are dependable, have a flexible schedule and experience with autistic children, this could be a great job for you.
We are looking for someone interested in a 20-25 hour/week job helping to care for our 2 wonderful boys while we are at work, and occasionally evenings and weekends. Our younger son Micah is 11 years old and has autism, so *direct experience caring for an autistic child is required* (even better if you have experience in ABA therapy). Our older son, Elijah, is 13 years old and is neurotypical.
You will need a driver's license and your own car, as transportation is necessary. We will reimburse you for miles.
You will toggle between two weekday schedules, as below -- schedule A when the kids are in school and schedule B when, due to days they come home earlier from school. The person we hire must be able to work schedule B if/when necessary as this is critical to allow mom to go to work.
We offer a rate of $20 / hour.
Schedule A (regular school days): 2 pm – 7 pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; on these days you will pick Micah up from school, and transport him home or to and from ABA therapy, which he has from 2:30 – 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
Occasionally he will not have ABA in the afternoons – if a therapist cancels – and in this case, you will spend time with him at home, engaging him in activities.
2-3 Saturday mornings per month, 9 am – 12 pm: Give respite for parents, playing with Micah at home or taking him to a local playground
Schedule B (early release days – 1-2/month, mostly Tuesday or Wednesdays): 11:30 am – 7 pm: school is done early on these days, so you would pick Micah up at this time, and have more free time with him at home before therapy starts at 2:30. Elijah would come home on the bus a little early, around 1 pm those days.
-We would ask a FIRM commitment for part time work at least until the end of October 2021. We are open to someone who may want to continue work the rest of the year.
A bit about our kids:
-Micah is partially verbal, can express his needs, and can understand you. He is sweet and gentle-natured, though he occasionally gets frustrated and needs help to calm down. He has occasional accidents and needs help to change or clean up if necessary. We have the house set up for him, but he does require supervision at all times to keep him safe. We would provide initial training by shadowing his ABA therapist.
-Eli occasionally needs ride to after school activities.
