I have over 5 years of childcare experience and without it I wouldn’t have made it through undergrad. I started in the nursery, caring for children ages newborn to one year old. I was responsible for diaper changes when needed, making sure the babies had plenty of age-appropriate toys and activities to stimulate their developing minds, and helping maintain nap time. I also made sure the babies were comforted whenever they began to miss their parents and, of course, safely returned them to their parents when church was over. As a young adult, I worked at a daycare with children ages four to five. I led pre-kindergarten after-school care, helping create a safe, nurturing, and positive environment. I assisted the children with homework, encouraged their academic development, and helped them better understand the work they were completing. I also maintained the cleanliness and organization of the classroom to promote a healthy learning space.
