We’re seeking a warm, capable, and creative Learning Guide / Counselor to help run a small, DIY summer camp for a tight-knit group of 6-10 kids, ages 5-9. The camp will operate June 22–August 7, Monday–Friday, 8:30am-5:30pm, with a low ~3-5:1 camper-to-guide ratio that allows for deep engagement and individualized support. Our home base is a building on the property of one of the families, complemented by frequent excursions around San Francisco and the greater Bay Area (parks, museums, neighborhoods, nature). Days will blend light academics (using self-guided learning software), kid-designed projects, outdoor exploration, and generous free play. You’ll help facilitate projects, supervise outings, support collaborative problem-solving, and create a safe, joyful environment where curiosity can flourish. This camp was created intentionally as an alternative to large, “check-the-box” day camps. We’re looking for someone who believes kids learn best when they have real agency—when they can set goals, pursue interests, and build things that matter to them—while still benefiting from gentle structure and academic continuity to prevent the summer learning slump. Ideal candidates will have prior childcare experience, with early education or elementary classroom experience strongly preferred, and be comfortable balancing guidance with letting kids lead. Pay is very competitive and based on experience.
