We are seeking an experienced behavioral support professional/special needs caregiver to provide consistent, skilled care for our 16-year-old nonverbal son with severe autism. This role is ideal for an RBT (Registered Behavior Technician), former ABA therapist or experienced special needs caregiver looking for meaningful, long-term work with a family who values expertise and consistency. This is not a typical childcare position—we need someone with specific training and experience in severe autism and crisis management. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week (occasional additional hours or weekends available by mutual agreement) Location: Topanga Canyon, CA (must have reliable transportation) Compensation: $25-35/hour based on experience and credentials Start Date: ASAP Employment Type: Direct hire, private pay About the Client 16-year-old male, nonverbal Severe autism with significant behavioral challenges including physical aggression, self-injurious behavior, and property destruction Communicates through gestures, leading, and some vocalizations Enjoys swimming, iPad time, sensory activities Requires consistent behavioral support and crisis management Daily Care & Activities: Provide 1:1 supervision and engagement throughout the day Assist with daily living activities (hygiene, meals, transitions) Facilitate preferred activities (swimming, community outings, sensory play) Use visual supports, AAC tools, or other communication methods as appropriate Follow established routines and schedules to promote structure Behavioral Support: Implement behavioral intervention strategies during daily activities Use de-escalation techniques to prevent and manage aggressive episodes Apply crisis management protocols when behaviors escalate Maintain safety for client, self, and others during challenging behaviors MUST HAVE (Non-negotiable): Direct experience with severe, nonverbal autism (adolescents/teens strongly preferred) RBT certification OR 2+ years working at an ABA agency as a behavior technician Proven ability to manage aggressive and self-injurious behaviors safely and effectively Crisis de-escalation training (CPI, PART, Safety-Care, or equivalent) Comfortable with physical demands of the role (blocking, redirecting, keeping up with active teen) Swimming ability (client loves water activities and needs supervision) Reliable transportation to Topanga Canyon area Clean background check (required) Current CPR and First Aid certification
