We are looking for a teaching nanny to help guide our 3.5-year-old son, Zachary, toward an early and positive start in learning Mandarin. We believe that learning the language at a young age could be an advantage for him later in life. For context, neither parent speaks Mandarin. LOCATION: We live in the Heritage District of Sunnyvale, within walking distance of the Sunnyvale Caltrain station. SCHEDULE AND START DATE: The role takes place on weekday afternoons after our son’s morning preschool (and later TK and Kindergarten), roughly from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM, about 4.5 hours per day. We’re flexible on the start date, but hope to be underway by early to mid March. Currently, we anticipate 3 or 4 weekdays per week, but would be happy to discuss 5 weekdays per week. A 2-weekday schedule could also be discussed, though it would be less ideal. We currently envision this role extending through the start of first grade, around August 2028. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provide approximately 30–60 minutes per afternoon of structured, age-appropriate Mandarin instruction, such as helping our son learn tones, simple everyday words, and basic phrases. * Provide immersive Mandarin exposure during the remaining approximately 3–3.5 hours by being a Mandarin-speaking companion while spending time with our son. This may include time at home playing, assisting with light homework, guiding simple chores, taking walks, going to the park, visiting a store, or attending out-of-home activities such as a gym class. You would be expected to drive him to and from destinations that are not walkable. * Occasionally pick our son up from preschool at 12:30 PM, and provide transportation as needed for possible, but limited, after-school activities in the future. * Perform simpler, child-related chores when we are unusually busy. We’ll aim to keep this to a minimum, since the focus of this role is Mandarin education. COMPENSATION AND EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Compensation is $30–$40 per hour, depending on experience, fit, and schedule alignment. Employment would be fully legal W-2 employment. The role includes 1–2 weeks of paid vacation. We would provide an appropriate car seat and cover reasonable incidental and educational material expenses. Thank you.
