We’re losing our current Mary Poppins at the end of July to a bright future, which is wonderful for her and tragic for the rest of us. We will cry when she leaves. We are hoping to find another helper who can take a real load off the household and help keep things running. We have full-time hours available, but can also support part-time while we find someone long-term. We both work full-time jobs with erratic schedules, and it has become impossible to work, care for the kids, manage the house, and keep up with all the details. It is also hard because I work remotely a lot and get pulled into the house chaos. I am looking to clone myself so I am able to step back. We are currently caring for our friend’s medically needy 8-year-old child with Type 1 Diabetes while his father gets on his feet. He is amazing, very sweet, and making a lot of progress, but he needs a lot of support, love, consistency, patience, and cleanup as he transitions. He is 8, but in many ways is more similar to a much younger child. This job is heavy on housekeeping, cleaning, organization, and generally keeping a busy house from turning into a disaster zone (although we do a general maid service here and there, as to free up time for bigger mental projects with the house, like organizing books or unpacking us). We also are constantly behind on house projects and very light handyman skills are a huge plus (our current nanny helped us get the trundle bed built, for example). We need someone independent, professional, detail-oriented, and able to notice what needs done and get it done. Examples include changing pee-covered linens, doing laundry, cleaning bathrooms that may have pull-ups shoved down them (rare but occasional), cleaning up kid messes, brushing four dogs, handling dog poop in the yard, helping with chicken chores, helping with random errands, cleaning behind the toaster, organizing clutter, taking out the mountain of cardboard boxes, and helping with light cooking for the child so he can get his medication. This house is definitely not for everyone, and we're taking our time to find someone who actually reads this post. We have four dogs, four chickens, a teenager, lots of guests, kids, medical needs, and two adults with very little time. We try to make-up for it by paying well and lots of laughter. The ideal person is organized, patient, physically able to keep up with an active child and lifting things, comfortable with animals, and has a huge heart.
