We are seeking a patient, intuitive, and "chill" caregiver to support our creative and independent son (age 9) in our home. He is PDA (Pervasive Drive for Autonomy) autistic and is currently homeschooled. This role isn't about being a "teacher" or a "boss"; it’s about being a collaborative partner who can hang out, explore interests, and provide a safe, low-pressure environment. More than specific certifications, we are looking for a specific personality type. You are likely a great fit if: You are "Low-Key": You have a calm, steady presence and don’t get easily rattled by big emotions or changes in plans. You are Flexible: You are happy to throw the "agenda" out the window if it’s a high-anxiety day. You Lack Ego: You don’t feel the need to "win" power struggles or enforce compliance for the sake of it. You are a Parallel Player: You’re comfortable sitting nearby and engaging in your own hobby until invited into his space. You are Intuitive: You can read the room and know when to offer support and when to back off. Key Responsibilities Collaborative Problem Solving: Working with him to navigate daily transitions or challenges through declarative language rather than using "commands." Safety & Engagement: Keeping him safe while encouraging his autonomy and self-expression. Light Snack/Meal Prep: Helping him get what he needs to eat in a low-demand way. Gaming: Willingness to play/learn the things he’s interested in and allowing him to win, always. Qualifications and Compensation Experience with neurodivergent children is great, but a deep willingness to learn about the PDA profile is more important. Reliable transportation. Excellent communication skills with parents (we are a team!). Pay rate: $30-40/hour, depending on experience.
