About this nanny job

We are a warm family in Long Island City seeking a reliable, experienced part-time evening Mother's Helper/Nanny to help with our energetic 3-year-old and newborn during the busy dinner and bedtime hours. We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys young children, is comfortable with both preschoolers and infants, and can be a dependable extra set of hands. At least one parent will usually be home and caring for one of the children, but we’d like someone who can confidently care for either child independently. Schedule • Approximately 15 guaranteed hours/week • Primarily Monday–Friday evenings, ~3 hours/night • Typically around 5:00–8:00 PM, with some flexibility • Occasional additional evening/date-night hours may be available Responsibilities • Engage and play with our 3-year-old • Help with dinner, bath, pajamas, books, and bedtime • Care for our newborn as needed, including bottles, burping, diapering, and soothing • Potentially pick up the baby from daycare (5–7 minute walk) • Allow parents to spend one-on-one time with either child • Eventually feel comfortable caring for both children independently for reasonable periods Mother's Helper / Household Support During natural downtime, help keep the evening running smoothly with child-related tasks such as: • Washing/preparing bottles • Loading/unloading dishwasher and cleaning up after children's meals • Children's laundry and tidying toys/children's spaces • Preparing school/daycare items for the next day • Light meal preparation • Resetting the kitchen and common areas This is not a housekeeping position. We value someone proactive who naturally notices what needs to be done and is comfortable pitching in. Ideal Candidate: • Significant care experience from newborn–preschool age children • At least 2 strong childcare references • Confidence independently managing dinner, bath, play, and bedtime with either child • Comfort with basic newborn care and bottle feeding • Excellent reliability and punctuality • Non-smoking • Sufficient English to communicate with our family, understand instructions, and handle an emergency Compensation $25–$30/hour, depending on experience and qualifications, with approximately 15 guaranteed hours/week. We are willing to pay toward the higher end for an exceptional candidate with substantial infant/preschool experience who can work independently.
