My approach with kids is just meeting them where they are and understanding that children learn and communicate through play. There's so much value in making a mess and/or playing outside as much as possible. Everything can be a learning experience without it even feeling like we have taught a child anything because we just had so much fun getting dirty and cleaning up together. For jobs 3 days or less per week and one time bookings, I do have a late cancellation policy. Cancellations with less than 24hrs notice will result in a 1/2 payment. Ex: if my projected pay was 100$ for the day, the late payment would be 50$. For full time families, I require guaranteed hours per week, paid on the books through a payroll service at 30-40$ per hour depending on responsibilities and number of children. I also prefer to negotiate for holiday/sick days (typically 2 weeks vacation and 1 weeks work of sick time but again we can negotiate a bit!)
