Hi! My name is Yabi and I am an MA Development Studies student based in Germany but back in the US for a while to work on my thesis. I love children and have worked with them throughout my life. Growing up in Ethiopia, I volunteered at multiple orphanages, taught English at schools and babysat for family friends. I moved to Denver, Colorado in June 2013 where I continued to babysit for family friends, then moved to San Francisco, where I worked regularly on UrbanSitter for almost four years while completing my BA. In my free time, I enjoy books, travel, badminton, languages, and going on walks near the water. I am passionate about education and am currently studying to earn my TEFL certificate. I also have a BA in International Studies with minors in African Studies and Politics. Additionally, I am fluent in English and Amharic; I have limited working proficiency in German; I can read and write in Arabic; and I am currently learning Mandarin. I look forward to meeting you and your family!

$26 per hour for 1 child
Booked by 14 families in Mount Vernon, VA

Hello families my name is Nakya and I was born and raise in Washington DC. I am very excited to have the opportunity to be part of your family. I have work in the daycare facilities for over 14 years with 10 years experience as a CDA licensed childcare provider specializing in the care of children ranging in age from newborns to teens. I am CPR and first aide certified with special early child care training. also working towards fulfilling my passion in special-education. My favorite Learning activity to do with the children is the five senses I loved this activity because it gives me a chance to watch the children explore their sense while learning all about their five sense. I also enjoy reading, arts and crafts, and engaging in fun creative indoor/outdoor activities that children will find entertaining and fulfilling. My hobbies are writing poetry, reading books and spending time with my family and friends... working with children is my passion and I loved every bit of it.

“Nakya was our first care taker for our son (and our first as parents), from the time he was 4 months old to 18 months. She was especially sweet & gentle with a young infant, which was very endearing. As our son grew -- and we added a second family to a nanny share -- Nakya's experience with a wide range of ages became very helpful. She had respectful tips to offer us as the boys grew and developed. Adult-to-adult, Nakya is engaging, energetic, and talkative. And just as she had helpful advice to give, she was very open to feedback. The only reason we don't still employ Nakya is the covid-19 pandemic; we don't currently need childcare. Thank you for everything, Nakya!”

Wendy 4 reviews
$28 per hour for 1 child
Booked by 4 families in Mount Vernon, VA

A little bit about me… Families often tell me I bring a calm, and engaging presence—especially with babies, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. I love nurturing curiosity through play, encouraging independence, and creating predictable routines that help children feel safe, confident, and deeply cared for. I have several years of experience with infants as well as elementary aged children. Over the past year, I've had the privilege of serving as a full-time live-out nanny for a wonderful family with two energetic, curious children (currently ages 3 and 5). With my experience homeschooling and parenting my own high energy children, this role strengthened my abilities even more. My responsibilities include daily transportation in the family's vehicle to and from school, camps, appointments, play dates, and extracurricular activities, while maintaining a safe, organized, and dependable routine. I am neurodiversity-affirming and have additional training supporting children with learning differences, including dyslexia, and dysgraphia. My focus is always connection-based care. I would love to learn how I can support you and your families needs. I am CPR and First Aid certified, comfortable with pets, and background checked with clean driving record.

“Wendy punctual, communicative and was amazing with my three young kids — they all had a great time having her as their sitter. Will definitely want to work with her again!”

"When we hired Amani, we felt like we hit the jackpot. We were very lucky to find her on UrbanSitter at the beginning of school year. She was picking up kids from school, taking them to afternoon activities, helping them with assignments. She prepped food for them, helped organize their closets and keep their spaces neat and orderly. We would hire her again in a heartbeat."
