Last summer I worked full-time as a day camp counselor at Naper Settlement for approximately 2.5 months. During this time, I learned how to cultivate supportive, respectful, and fun relationships with dozens of children aged 6-12. From this experience, I have become quite familiar dealing with children who have varying personalities, life experiences, emotions, and needs. I've learned how to best create spaces for children to learn about themselves, experiment, play, and have fun while doing so. I also have experience caring for my younger cousins, currently age 8 and 11, throughout my teenage years. I always like to emphasize treating children with the same respect and attention as we do with adults, I have found this builds trust and allows children, and adults, to be more open and honest with each other. I am patient, understanding, responsive, and empathetic, and I try to embody these qualities in whatever setting I find myself in.
