Other notable experiences include being a campus peer-facilitator where I learned how to create fun activities for freshman to help them learn more about their introductory class. I have worked with children since 2022 as an aftercare teacher and summer camp teacher at an elementary school, supporting kids ages 2–6. I regularly managed groups of 6–12 children with some help from other teachers, creating a safe and engaging environment. Before moving to D.C., I babysat for two families with children ages 3–14. Hi there! My name is Zay :) I’m currently a senior student-athlete at Howard University, where I compete on the swim and dive team. Im health science major with a minor in biology. I have experience working with children through several roles, including as a Cast Member at Walt Disney World and as a Student Leader Intern (SLI) for the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools program. I was also involved in my schools Best Buddies program and am well versed in communicating with kids with special needs. I would describe myself as an outgoing, energetic, responsible and overall patient individual. I enjoy working with children, as I believe they are our future! I also believe that working with children provides an opportunity to discover a new purpose everyday! While nothing is going to come easy, the gratification I feel breaking through to a child and seeing their face light up with that “ah ha” moment is worth it. I have been working with children for the majority of my life. As of right now, I work for a caregiving service that specializes in the care of children with special needs, called Cambrian Homecare, and have been here for about 3 years. My name is Sofia and I am a third year Urban Elementary Education major at Howard University. I absolutely love children and am super grateful to be studying and maturing my work full time at Howard. Back home in Connecticut, I have worked summers at an urban childcare facility for 6 years caring for infants-5th grade. I also supplemented my high school career with babysitting, working after-schools at the local YMCA, and assisting special-needs students. I love working with all children, but am gifted working with seniors, special-needs adults, and most animals as well.
