I’m the middle child of three children, and one of 22 grandchildren in my family so I am very accustomed to being surrounded by young children running around! My mother has worked as an early childhood educator/administrator my entire life. Many of the tactics she utilized in her classroom were the same ones she used raising my siblings and I. I’ve learned much of what I use in childcare from her, including helping the young ones with their coursework! I worked my summers in high school at a science and engineering camp where I was a counselor for ages 5-7. I became early education and care certified in college when I was a teaching assistant for the on campus daycare primarily as an infant/toddler daycare teacher. In addition to providing direct care for the babies in my classroom, I also have experience working with infants as a medical assistant for a pediatrician’s office and worked directly with families at a children’s hospital to enroll them into clinical trials. I developed curriculum, managed scheduling and instructed every class. I have worked as a nanny for over a decade before having children of my own and now take part-time work. Some of my favorite jobs included two brothers, ages 4 and 11 who enjoyed playing adventure make-believe and basketball, respectively, who I nannied for 3 times a week for about a year before graduating. I also loved my time as a nanny for three brothers, ages 6, 9, and 12 who had packed schedules to keep after school: practicing piano, doing homework and playing soccer outdoors, who I watched for over a year. I will also never forget the family who lived in my building here in new york, whose daughters - ages 4 and newborn I watched at least once a week, sometimes more, sometimes just coming over to play and visit; ballet, painting, storytelling, and going on adventures full of imagination and play were all part of the itinerary - all while keeping to the required schedule for feeding and bedtime, of course. :) Most importantly, I have 3 siblings, including two younger brothers, both of whom I adore. I am older than the youngest by 7 years, so by the time I was 13 I not only began babysitting professionally but also proved both my responsibility and joy to play on a constant basis as I watched over my brothers. I have an 11 year old niece who is the apple of my eye. I was 16 when she was born, and my sister worked full time, so my primary job in high school was to come over after school and take over for my mom and watch my niece for the day, starting when she was a newborn to around 2.5 yrs old at 2-3 times a week for long afternoons until my sister came home. Hi, my name is Bahia (pronounced ba-ya) and I’m a film major at Pratt Institute! I’m originally from Oakland, California and moved to New York to pursue my education! I am offering child care. I am CPR certified. I have EMSA Health and Safety certification (requirement for working at a school/daycare in CA). I also have gone through the process of having a daycare license in CA, it is not currently active as I now live in NYC! Every summer I work at a french immersion daycare in Oakland called Les BouTchou. I worked there full time from January-August 2024. I worked with babies ranging from 3months to 2 years old both within the daycare and as a babysitter! Additionally I worked as a substitute preschool teacher for kids 2-4yrs also at Les BouTchou. We learned songs, did many creative projects, and had so much fun while doing it! I’ve also worked as a counselor at a sleepaway camp in Tahoe, CA/NV. The age range was 8-15yrs. We led activities, hikes, and daily traditions for the entire summer, while keeping kids safe and guiding them through their emotional needs while being away from home.
