Based on several factors, I may use redirection, modeling what I want them to do or say, several reminders to reinforce behavior expectations such as washing hands after outside play and before meals, offering "first this, then that" or a choice of what to do first when both activities are required, advanced notice before transitioning to something else, and other age-appropriate caregiving practices. As a strong empath, I want to use my innate ability to connect with children (and all people) in a way that helps them feel understood, valued, worthy of kindness and attention, great for who they are JUST AS THEY ARE, and safe. I've found that I can't nurture children as deeply as I'd like and, in the case of very young children, to the degree I feel they need as they learn about themselves, others and their world.

I grew up in an in-home childcare that my mother ran for about 12 years. I have four younger siblings as well. I started babysitting at 15 for the neighbors and by the time I was 19 I was doing overnights with a 3 month old baby girl, a two year old and ten year old. It was a lot but we did it! I’ve had a few other families over the years but it’s been some time as I am now a hairstylist and have worked in restaurants for the last 10-13 years. I am currently 37 years old and have my own 10 month old little boy who will be with me most of the time. He’s a very good, smart little guy and loves big kids.
