Hello Families! Like most of us, I have been babysitting long before I was getting paid to do so, and I've always enjoyed it. I have 8 years of professional/paid babysitting experience under my belt and I love my jobs! I also have volunteer hours at orphanages and pre-k classrooms, which were very educative and fulfilling. I enjoy the interaction with the children and the flexibility these jobs have to offer a student like myself. I spent some years schooling outside of the States, which has molded me into well rounded, open-minded individual . I display responsibility and reliability on and off the job and an easy-going personality to be around. Previous employers describe me as very sweet, yet assertive with the children. I am energetic and playful enough to get down on all fours and play Space Explorers with the kids I babysit, yet mature enough to take charge and maintain control. I enjoy playtime and being active (i.e. trips to the park) with children, but I do see it as my duty to engage them mentally while they are in my care. I limit TV watching and enjoy reading to them and doing other age appropriate educational activities. I primarily take on one-time/occasional/date-night/overnight/traveling sitting jobs. I have a very flexible schedule, so I can also be a lifesaver in last minute and short notice situations. I look forward to working with you :)

Kathryn

$25 per hour for 1 child
Booked by 16 families in Washington Navy Yard, DC

Hi! I'm Kathryn - kids call me KP. Friends have also referred to me as Aunt Kathryn, Baby Whisperer and Better Mommy. (That last one comes from a pretty specific sense of humor!). My very first job was babysitting when I was 11. I worked my way through high school and college as a nanny, babysitter and camp counselor. Professionally I’m a consultant (political, program, operations), but I also want to remain a camp counselor forever so I spend a significant amount of my time helping families in the DC area. Some ways I can help: -babysitting -cooking in your home -overnights or multi-day caretaking -kids’ parties - arts and crafts, cooking or baking, games and simulations, wilderness, theater and movement, swimming pool -custom cakes for kids -driving kids around -lice treatment Message me to talk about any of these - I have references and examples of recent engagements for all of them. I love newborns - I earned the "baby whisperer" nickname because babies stop crying when I hold them. Many friends have asked me to be their new baby's first babysitter. I have spent more than a few hours in the NICU with friends' new babies and I can handle very young and special needs babies. I also love older kids - I do arts & crafts, baking and cooking, dance parties, field trips, nature & outside time, etc. Two of my favorite secret tricks are pipe cleaners and the Ministry of Silly Walks. Nutrition and health are serious hobbies for me - I am a great home cook and a registered yoga teacher. Cleaning isn't my favorite but I like to take care of people, and I love seeing the relief on people's faces when I finish some laundry or dishes or other cleaning task they're dreading. Mostly, I love meeting humans of all ages wherever they are and engaging on their level. I'm loving, compassionate, non-judgmental and fun. I'm also super no-nonsense and really great at boundaries and expectations. I'd love to meet your family!

We highly recommend KP. She supported our family for two weeks caring for our four-month-old son, and we couldn’t have been happier with her help. She was always punctual, dependable, and came with a positive attitude. Our son immediately took to her, and it was clear from the start that she has a natural affinity for children. During her time with us, KP thoughtfully handled our son’s feedings and naps, incorporated age-appropriate activities and play to support his development and mobility, and helped with general baby-related chores. She was incredibly responsible, attentive, and caring. We’re grateful for the support KP provided our family and would recommend her to anyone looking for a warm and responsible caregiver.

"We absolutely LOVE Isa — our family was so fortunate to have found her through UrbanSitter. I'm a first-time mom, and it took me a long time to find a full-time nanny I could trust to care for our sweet infant boy. Our boy connected with her immediately, and we couldn't have asked for anyone else to care for him. Her calming presence was also perfect for parents like us who work from home. We feel so lucky UrbanSitter helped us find someone who has truly become a part of our family."

"I was so stressed about finding a part-time nanny for my 14-month-old son, who has moderate separation anxiety and hadn't been left with anyone but family before, but we were both immediately at ease in Buhay's presence. Her empathy and commitment to understanding child development are apparent in every interaction I've witnessed between her and my toddler. I feel very lucky to have found her."

"Erna watched our now 5 year old daughter and 3 year old son for a few years. She is punctual, responsible, honest, and playful. What we appreciated most was that she was thoughtful in ensuring that we had a little break; for example, when the kids were clingy, she was able to divert their attention with games or songs or walks to the park. We felt very comfortable leaving our kids with Erna because of her caring nature and experience that spans a decade (including being a live-in nanny)."
