I was a toddler teacher for about 2 years prior to being a TA. I was able to get an excellent background on infants toddlers while working at that child care center! Some of the activities I like to do with children are arts and crafts, a nice walk, parks, museums, food related activities, and a good movie is always fun! Hi! I’m Journie! 💕 I’m a college student, athlete, and future teacher who loves staying active and spending time with kids. I played basketball at Morton College and have wrestled since sixth grade, including competing in freestyle wrestling at Fargo and receiving a wrestling scholarship. Outside of sports, I love being outdoors, exploring nature, reading, and singing. I’m also studying Early Childhood Education because I hope to become a teacher one day. I’ve been working with children for almost three years as a kids counselor at my local park district. I spent two years with the Mavericks program, working with K–3rd graders, and this year I work with Trailblazers, working with 3rd–6th graders. I help supervise kids, organize activities, play sports like basketball and soccer, and even help run sports programs at the park district. I’m energetic, patient, responsible, and love creating a safe and fun environment where kids can be themselves!

I grew up in a big family and always found myself taking care of the younger kids. I am an elementary education major so in high-school I took a preschool class that allowed me to get experience with 3-5 year olds. Then I joined my churches nursery so I got a little over a year of experience with infants and 2-3 with toddlers. I babysit my 3 month old niece often. I work at a daycare where I float around a lot. That has allowed me to have 8 months of experience with all ages up to 4-5. The child’s wellbeing has always been my priority but also making sure they’re having fun. Working at a daycare has also taught me to communicate better with kids and parents. Knowing what helps them when they can’t really speak for themselves or can’t form full sentences. After the daycare I became a director at a summer camp/after school program which gave me experience with ages 5-12.
