Hi there, My name is Nydia. I'm a transplant from California and attended SFSU to become a teacher. I've worked with Jumpstart in Hunters Point, SF and focused on helping elementary students catch up on their literacy proficiency. I later worked with the YMCA's after school programs. I moved to Chicago in 2011 and worked at Urban Child Academy as an assistant as well as part of the Spanish Immersion program (I am bilingual in Spanish). I began the Day Of The Dead ofrenda there and also helped young minds feel comfortable being in a school setting before they ventured off to kindergarten. Although I am no longer in education, I valued my time in all of the vast settings and learned that each child is different and caring for them is never a one size fits all task. I volunteer at One Tail At a Time and in the past with Alive Rescue. I had the privilege of adopting a sweet street pup I named Walter and had him for 8 years before he passed of old age last September. I hope to be a relief to a family a few days a week and offer my help. I live in Logan Square but do have a car and have lived in Chicago for 15 Winters so I definitely feel comfortable and confident in any neighborhood. I love children and am a child at heart myself. An artist, I paint, sing in a band, write, and have acted in independent films. I have primarily supported myself as a freelance graphic designer, and have been self-employed for many years, so I have vast experiences being able to handle multiple responsibilities, urgent needs from my clients (in this case, little munchkins), and be cool under pressure. I'm also a mom myself, though my own little munchkins are grown and on their own now (and taller than me!). I am very gentle, organized, and fun and have an empathetic nature. And because I otherwise work freelance, my schedule is flexible. I would so love to help care for kids near me, and would happily lead them in projects, too, or come up with creative ideas on how we could pass the time (aka--not on screens). I have led classes in drawing and painting for both kids and adults for years as well, and would have fun teaching or leading instruction in art-making or crafts (I'm also a crafter--crochet, sewing, weaving, air-dry clay, etc.) I have a cat and have also had dogs, so I'm very comfortable with pet care. Hello! I have a genuine love for kids and enjoy spending time with them, whether it's playing games, helping with homework, and more. For a family, I provided care for their three-month-old, two-year-old, and their four-year-old. This involved managing diverse needs and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for each child. Caring for others is second nature to me (oldest sister of 5), I have always strived to create a nurturing and supportive atmosphere for everyone around me (including fur babies as well).
