I am a former television journalist, field producer, and news team manager with national and regional experience in multiple cities at major news companies. I left it all to form a youth-focused nonprofit in Chicago. After helping youth and young parents with their children, I recently decided I would try being a nanny/child caregiver when another nanny told me I would be great at it because of my nurturing personality, skills and love for children & youth. Babysitting was my first job. I grew up babysitting regularly for my neighbors, family friends, and even my teachers’ children. I also love cleaning homes and businesses. I am the daughter of an amazing mother who cleaned at a large hospital. I joined the staff to raise money for college. I know that having a busy family with children plus cleaning a home can be challenging. I love to utilize my large repertoire of skills and experiences to help others do better in life. I believe this Urban Sitter will be a good opportunity for me to grow as I help families and help to nurture and teach children while fulfilling a need for parents. Hi, my name is Miya and I am going into my second year at the University of Chicago! I am from Washington, DC and am living in Chicago over the summer. I love theater, reading, hiking, and fun arts and crafts. I am offering child, senior, and pet care. I have been babysitting and petsitting since I was 14 years old. While babysitting, my responsibilities have included cooking, cleaning, and tutoring, as well as leading activities for kids like crafting and dance/music lessons. My favorite experience has been teaching one of my kids ballet! I am also happy to walk and feed pets; I have 2 dogs and 3 turtles of my own so I am very comfortable with animals. I also have experience with senior care. I have grown up with my grandparents in the house and have spent a lot of time looking after them. Additionally, I worked at Grand Oaks Assisted Living Facility for 2 years. At Grand Oaks, I spent a lot of time taking care of residents as well as playing the piano for and forming genuine connections with the residents. I am very flexible this summer and am willing to dedicate many hours to working. I also would love to continue working throughout the school year this year, although my hours would slightly change then.
