Hey all. I graduated from Tulane in May 2024, and after a year of traveling and nannying, am back in New Orleans for the forseeable future! I am super passionate about working with kids, and am looking to find awesome families to nanny for when I move back. My schedule is currently very flexible, and I am interested in both full-time and part-time work (occasional babysitting okay too. E.g. date night, sick day). I have my own transport. 
I have extensive experience (8+ years), which includes working with newborns up to age 14, children with special needs (both verbal and nonverbal), multiples (e.g. siblings with large age gaps, twins), tutoring up to grade six, and a specialty in keeping toddlers in check (success varies depending on length of nap- lol). I also create DIY "summer camps" for kids. My most recent endeavor included keeping eight five-year-olds entertained for days at a time (activities, park, pool, crafts, positive engagement). I take a play-based, screen-free approach to nannying and easily adapt my techniques based on parents' specifications and the child's needs. I believe in holding boundaries while also holding space for very real feelings (E.g., "No, we cannot get ice cream, and I know that's sad. It's okay to flop down on the ground, cry, and feel angry. Take your time, I am here.") AED and CPR (infant, child, adult) certified. Hi! My name is Ava, I'm a New Orleans transplant originally from California. I went to college at University of California Santa Barbara to study Psychology and then ended up working in the film industry as a Director's Guild of America 2nd Assistant Director. I have a younger brother (6 years younger) and grew up babysitting him as well as kids in my neighborhood when I was in high school. In college I worked at a children's pottery painting studio. After college I was also assigned to take care of my boss's 3 children and coordinated their schedules between their separated parents households. My mother was an elementary and middle school teacher and helped me learn how to help tutor children with different ability levels in numbers subjects but my favorites to assist with are still art and math :) I grew up with dogs and adopted a catahoula puppy last summer. I'm also the go to animal sitter for my friends and take care of their cats and dogs while they are traveling.

I have been teaching from grades Prek-5th grade for 10 years in New Orleans public schools as a Special Education Teacher. I also have experience working as a behavior interventionist at an Autism clinic. I have experience with vulnerable adults as well. I have worked with children of all abilities and ages. I am the sole parent to a two-year-old! On my spare time, I am a folk artist, blues enthusiast and kayaker!

I’ve had a job as nanny where I quickly learned what it is like to be around a child and her friends of around the ages of 8-10. I got a second job as a property manager where I had to use a lot of organization skills in order to keep record of properties and to continue order of said properties. Now I works as an art teacher, which has become my passion and I hope to get my teaching certification this summer. All in all, my skills span from strong communication and understanding of children to strong organization and determination when it comes to keeping things functioning.
