Hi! My name is Yabi and I am an MA Development Studies student based in Germany but back in the US for a while to work on my thesis. I love children and have worked with them throughout my life. Growing up in Ethiopia, I volunteered at multiple orphanages, taught English at schools and babysat for family friends. I moved to Denver, Colorado in June 2013 where I continued to babysit for family friends, then moved to San Francisco, where I worked regularly on UrbanSitter for almost four years while completing my BA. In my free time, I enjoy books, travel, badminton, languages, and going on walks near the water. I am passionate about education and am currently studying to earn my TEFL certificate. I also have a BA in International Studies with minors in African Studies and Politics. Additionally, I am fluent in English and Amharic; I have limited working proficiency in German; I can read and write in Arabic; and I am currently learning Mandarin. A little bit about me… Families often tell me I bring a calm, and engaging presence—especially with babies, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. I love nurturing curiosity through play, encouraging independence, and creating predictable routines that help children feel safe, confident, and deeply cared for. Over the past year, I've had the privilege of serving as a full-time live-out nanny for a wonderful family with two energetic, strong-willed children (currently ages 3 and 5). With my experience homeschooling and parenting my own high energy children, this role strengthened my abilities even more. My responsibilities include daily transportation in the family's vehicle to and from school, camps, appointments, play dates, and extracurricular activities, while maintaining a safe, organized, and dependable routine.
