I was born in Eritrea and grew up in Seattle where I enjoyed hiking, going on walks, and visiting some amazing bookshops and cafes. I first starting helping care for children when my sister was born. While I can’t believe that she is nine now (!!!), I have enjoyed helping take care of her since she was born. Since my mother was a contract worker and my father worked doubles, taking care of her was a responsibility I took very seriously and found to be beyond rewarding. The skills and patience I gained when helping her learn to read or understand her frustrations when she couldn’t verbalize them are ones I use now as I study patient care. Since taking care of her, I have been trusted with the care of children of all ages and varying needs. I personally enjoy reading together, going on walks, working through homework, playing games, cooking, and making origami animals with kids. I am very health conscious and have received both Covid shots as well as three boosters along with my yearly flu shot. Hi! My name is Ciana I'm a 25 years old and I've been working with kids on and off since I was about 10. My most recent professional experience was working at the YMCA for over a year. I wore numerous of 'hats' such as playground partner (glorified PE teacher), basketball coach, Transitional Kindergarten TA /support staff, and camp counselor. As for 'unprofessional' experience I occasionally watch my little cousins 6 years old and 14 months, feeding, entertaining and teaching them new and old things. I've been trusted to take care of my sister's two cats and my dads dog when they're out of town. I take caring for kids seriously as presence, community and communication are essentially in a child's development. My conviction is children are our reflections any child I'm around keeps me honest and the situation given to them honest. Hello! My name is Ameerah, and I’m a sophomore Philosophy major at Howard University with aspirations of attending law school. I currently work at the Meaningful Futures Organization in Bethesda, Maryland as a camp counselor, working with children with disabilities on Saturdays. I’m looking for more part-time work during the week! I’m 20 years old and have a variety of hobbies, including reading, journaling, painting, and crafting. I’ve had a passion for working with children for years. In high school, I volunteered and worked with kids in several roles: camp counselor, camp volunteer, and camp mentor. My duties included supervising children ages 5-15 during lunch, recess, downtime, and field trips. I also led activities like kickball, arts and crafts lessons, and made sure the younger children took their naps. Additionally, I’ve worked with an after-school program called Better Than Schools as an after-school care teacher. In that role, I supervised field trips, assisted students with homework, led fun and educational house mania activity days, and curated lesson plans to ensure the children were engaged and learning. Growing up in a large family, I often babysat my siblings and cousins, which gave me even more hands-on experience with caring for children.
