I’m looking for a reliable, patient, and caring nanny/caregiver for my 10-year-old son, Gavin, who has autism and is non-verbal. We recently moved to Austin, and Gavin is currently waiting for insurance authorization to begin ABA therapy. Until his ABA services begin, I need someone who can provide full-day care for him during the week while I’m at work. Once ABA begins, the schedule will likely transition to part-time care covering the hours when he is not in therapy and I am still working. Current schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 8:00 AM–6:00PM. There may be some flexibility with the exact hours. Once ABA begins: Hours will decrease based on his therapy schedule. I’m hoping to find someone who may be interested in continuing with us on a part-time basis once we know his permanent schedule. However, I won’t know this schedule until after insurance authorizes his ABA therapy. Therefore, I understand if you aren’t able to continue after this temporary full-time schedule ends. Gavin is a sweet, active 10-year-old. Because he is non-verbal, I’m especially interested in someone who has previous experience caring for children with autism, developmental disabilities, or other special needs. Experience as an RBT, special-education paraprofessional, special-needs nanny, or similar role would be a big plus, but it isn’t required if you have relevant hands-on experience. Responsibilities would primarily include supervising and engaging with Gavin, preparing simple meals/snacks, helping with his daily routine and personal care needs as necessary, keeping him safe, and spending time doing activities he enjoys. Gavin is potty trained, but will need to be reminded to use the toilet; accidents are also a possibility. This is a caregiving position, not an expectation that you provide ABA therapy. I’m looking for someone who is dependable, calm, patient, comfortable learning Gavin’s routines and communication style, and genuinely enjoys working with kids with different needs. Preferred qualifications: * Experience with autistic and/or non-verbal children * CPR/First Aid certification * Reliable transportation * Comfortable with full-day one-on-one care * RBT, special education, or special-needs caregiving experience is a plus A trial session will be necessary so Gavin and the caregiver have an opportunity to get comfortable with each other before beginning regular care.
