Hi! My name is Amaya and I am a recent college graduate with a Bachelor's in Social Work and Policy Studies. I have a deep passion for child safety and welfare, and creating safe, nurturing environments where kids can truly thrive. My childcare experience spans several years, from helping care for children in my neighborhood growing up with my mother, to working at the YMCA with toddlers, to working at a daycare with children as young as 8 months through kindergarten age. I understand child development deeply, not just from hands-on experience but from my academic training in social work. I am warm, creative, and imaginative. I believe in getting kids engaged in play, art, and hands-on activities rather than screens. I bring energy and intentionality to every interaction. I respond quickly and communicate clearly with parents such as updates, photos, and check-ins are always part of my care. Beyond childcare, I am a previous cat owner and have pet sat dogs for friends, so I am comfortable with animals. I am also open to light household tasks as needed. I’m from West Philadelphia (born and raised) and I went to Penn for my Bachelors, so I know this area like the back of my hand! I’ve been babysitting school-age kids since I was a teenager, and I am adept at bedtime stories, outdoor play, tutoring, and cooking. For longer-term gigs, I like to encourage kids to try new things and build age-appropriate skills (with parents’ permission of course). I studied physics in college and in the fall, I will be going to Columbia to get my PhD in earth science, so if your kids need some tutoring or homework help in STEM, I’d be happy to provide it! Since I’m doing a gap year, my schedule is quite flexible, so please just let me know your needs!

I’ve had a job as nanny where I quickly learned what it is like to be around a child and her friends of around the ages of 8-10. I got a second job as a property manager where I had to use a lot of organization skills in order to keep record of properties and to continue order of said properties. Now I works as an art teacher, which has become my passion and I hope to get my teaching certification this summer. All in all, my skills span from strong communication and understanding of children to strong organization and determination when it comes to keeping things functioning.
