Booked by 20 families in Alameda, CA

Hi! My name is Elinor, and I’d love to connect with your family! I moved to Oakland two years ago and currently teach 7th grade. As the eldest of four kids, taking care of children has always been second nature to me—I started babysitting when I was 14 and haven't stopped since! While I love teaching during the school day, babysitting outside of school hours allows me to keep working with kids of all ages while helping me make ends meet. I'm open to all types of jobs and bring a ton of flexibility! During the school year, I'm mostly available for afterschool care and weekends, as well as during school breaks and holidays. I am also available for house sitting and pet sitting, both of which I have done many times over the years. I am fully open to traveling with families and doing overnight stay care as well. Beyond child care, I have a lot of experience with—and genuinely love—organizing. I'm always happy to jump in and help out with household chores, whether that's laundry, meal prep, or keeping things tidy and running smoothly. I hold a degree in History and Secondary Education from Grinnell College, along with CPR and First Aid certifications. Beyond standard babysitting, I teach 7th grade English and 8th grade math, so I am always happy to provide tutoring or homework help if your child needs extra support! Over the years, I've worked as a nanny, camp counselor, and swim instructor, so I’m comfortable with everything from driving to after-school activities and meal prep to organizing fun outdoor games and keeping kids engaged. I’d love to chat and see if I’d be a good fit for your family! Warmly, Elinor Hanley

$26 per hour for 1 child
Booked by 4 families in Alameda, CA

I grew up in a large family as the second oldest of five siblings, where I took on a caregiving role from a young age. With workaholic parents, I helped raise my younger siblings, which taught me patience, responsibility, and how to understand children’s needs. In high school and after graduating, I also worked part-time babysitting my neighbors’ children, further strengthening my ability to connect with kids and provide a safe, nurturing environment. Since moving to the U.S., I have continued working as a part-time babysitter and have developed strong childcare experience.

“Heven watched our two girls for the evening. She arrived on time and immediately settled in with the girls. getting to know them and setting up an activity to keep them busy as we departed. All went well. Heven was very responsive and provided good communication. I definitely recommend.”

Booked by 5 families in Alameda, CA

Hi there! My name is Kennedy, and I am a professional nanny and Cal alum. I bring 9 1/2 years of childcare experience, including 5 years as a childcare attendant at the Bay Club gym, where I cared for children of all ages from newborns to teens. During my time there, I created and led engaging, age-appropriate activities for toddlers and school-aged children, supported infants, and also provided babysitting services for member families outside of the gym. For the past 4 1/2 years, I've worked as a nanny for numerous families, with a primary focus on infant and toddler care, while also caring for older children (part-time and occasionally). I'm fully vaccinated, CPR certified, have a driver's license, a reliable car, and experience safely driving children. I also have strong references and a deep passion for nurturing and supporting children's growth through every developmental stage! I truly love what I do and feel honored to be a part of each child's journey. :-) Thank you for taking the time to read about me and for your consideration!

I am dedicated to empowering children to identify and express their emotions and to be curious about the world around them. I would describe myself as calm, introverted and low-key. However, I am very comfortable setting boundaries with children when needed and using firm but positive reminders about house rules and playing/sharing gently with siblings ☺️ I have a Masters degree from San Francisco State University in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I am a Bay Area native and prefer getting bookings in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley or Albany :) While I do live in Oakland, I am a pro at getting quickly by public transit to SF 🚂🚍👍 and always give myself plenty of time.

"When we hired Amani, we felt like we hit the jackpot. We were very lucky to find her on UrbanSitter at the beginning of school year. She was picking up kids from school, taking them to afternoon activities, helping them with assignments. She prepped food for them, helped organize their closets and keep their spaces neat and orderly. We would hire her again in a heartbeat."
