My experience working with children began 34 years old when my mom signed me and my sister up for a babysitting class at the Red Cross. I began caring for children of family friends and other families within the community. By college age, I found a love for volunteering for various community organizations that offered services for teens, homeless community, and my church. For this family in particular my duties relied a lot on the familial values and structures they had in place, for example, there was a limit on screen time with the kids and a big emphasis on outdoor play and exploration. In addition, this family followed cultural diet structure, involving a lot of plant-based and organic foods for preparation. A lot of my duties revolved around meal preparation and following these dietary restrictions. For the Co. family (part-time) I began staying with their kids at 9 months old and 4 years old, and worked with them until they were 4 years old and 8 years old. A lot of my duties surrounding this position revolved around transportation of the boys, often to and from activities. I also handled making sure the oldest took his medication as prescribed, worked a lot with potty training, explored creative outlets, etc.
