I am the oldest of 5 kids and absolutely love being around children. I love teaching, being silly, dancing, and empowering kids. I have my bachelor's degree in Psychology and my work experience has been in mental health, social work, and working with troubled children and teens. My favorite job by far was working as a counselor at a mental health clinic for children. I had a group of 5-8 clients, ages 8-10 years old that I worked with daily on anger management, emotion regulation and social skills. I enjoy the outdoors: hiking, camping, and exploring in general. I love the ocean: swimming, snorkeling, boating. I love getting lost in a good book. And I love to dance, specially salsa and bachata. I facilitate, organize, and supervise outdoor activities, creative and imaginative play, cooking, art, science, volunteer projects, outings, and playdates. I assist with tutoring, homework, reading stories, and other daily routines. I take children to appointments and activities, prepare children’s meals, and do light child-related housekeeping. I try to balance children’s physical and mental health and psychosocial well-being using an evidence-based harm reduction approach. I believe it is vital to employ enough caution to keep children safe and healthy, but not so much that they become anxious, depressed, or developmentally stifled. I have been certified in CPR, first aid, and as a Wilderness First Responder. My language skills are rusty, but I understand some French and Spanish. Hi there! I’m Rowan, and I’ve been working with kids for the past 10 years. I mostly have experience with kids 5-11 years old, but can work outside of that range as well. For animal care, I grew up with animals, and have fostered multiple times since 2020. Recently I have been volunteering with a local rescue. Children and animals see the world through different eyes, and are always a great reminder of what’s important in life. Working with kids and animals reminds me to be my best self and we get to create a wonderful adventure together along the way! I’m currently a music student at PCC, and love anything to do with art, science and animals. I’m passionate about books, films, music, video games and travel!
