Hi, I’m Maria, a highly experienced and compassionate caregiver with a strong background in education and specialized child care. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Preparation for Teaching and currently work as a substitute teacher, supporting students across a wide range of ages, abilities, and learning environments.
I previously worked as a Preschool Teacher at La Petite Academy, where I was responsible for maintaining a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom. I supported daily routines, led age-appropriate learning activities, assisted with meals and transitions, and used positive behavior guidance to support social and emotional development. I understand how important consistency, patience, and clear communication are for young children.
In addition, I have extensive experience working with children with disabilities and medical needs. I have supported children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, visual impairments, seizure disorders, behavioral challenges, and children who require tube feeding. Through my work in special education settings, I developed a calm, attentive, and safety-focused approach to care. I am comfortable following care plans, recognizing signs of distress, and working closely with families to meet each child’s individual needs.
Beyond my education background, I have spent several years sailing internationally as part of a small crew, traveling over 15,000 nautical miles. This experience strengthened my sense of responsibility, safety awareness, problem-solving skills, and ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations. These qualities directly support my work with children and families.
Families describe me as dependable, nurturing, and confident. I take pride in being someone parents can trust with their children’s safety, well-being, and daily care. I genuinely enjoy building meaningful connections with children and supporting families with reliable, thoughtful care.
