Hello, I'm Maddy! I'm originally from southern Illinois near St. Louis, MO but moved here to pursue a Biology, Society, and Environment degree at UMN. While in undergrad, I worked as a tour guide and eventually a supervisor in Admissions. I also loved my time as a tuba player in the marching band! After graduating this spring, I'm now pursing an M.Ed and teaching license, hoping to teach HS or MS biology!
Experience with Kids:
While I was in high school, I was a part-time babysitter for 2 lovely boys (9, 11) and a camp counselor at a theatre camp (ages 5-13). Between these two jobs, I made a lot of chicken fajitas and sang a lot of camp songs! In the past 4 years, I've gained more experience as an AVID tutor and assistant teacher at local middle schools. If your student needs some extra homework help, I am happy to assist!
Experience with Pets:
Living in the country, I've always had a few dogs or cats around...as well as cows, goats, and chickens! My mom trained as a vet tech and passed down a few emergency response techniques, a careful pet owner herself. I've done lots of overnight sitting in the past, and would be happy to watch over your furry/hairy/wooly/scale-y/feathery friends while you're out of town!
Experience with Seniors:
While in high school, I was a dietary aide at our local nursing home, working primarily in skilled care, rehabilitation, and memory care. Of course, I was only a dietary aide and didn't do any medicine administration or physical assistance, but if you're looking for someone to help with basic tasks and have some good conversation, that's my specialty!
Special Notes:
Disabilities - I am happy to learn about your dependent's disability and the ways I can accommodate, but I'd like to be transparent that it's not something I have experience in yet. My teacher education has covered the basics thus far, but I believe there is lots to learn outside of the classroom!
Driving - My own car is not as dependable as I'd like, so I'd be uncomfortable driving around your dependent. If you'd like me to drive your car, I am perfectly comfortable! I spent a year driving at Papa John's and always scored top marks!
