Hi, there! My name is Anita. I am currently a full time high school art teacher in Palo Alto. My works hours are between 9 AM and 4:30 PM, but I’m happy to help out with child care and pet care during the evenings (after 5PM) and weekends. I love working with young folks and have taught elementary school kids and high schoolers for eleven years now. I have also worked at Camp Galileo as a Lead Instructor for over three years. My fondness for teaching started when I was in high school when I used to assist in teaching children how to dance and through my high school's child development program where we taught elementary school students physical education. Growing up, my mother ran a day care at our house and being a babysitter brings me back to when I used to help her out with the kids. Regarding pets, I've had pets my whole life and a dog (whom I raised from a pup until his passing) and cat of my own. I'm very comfortable with animals and find that both kids and animals warm up to me easily. My responsibilities can include arts and crafts, homework, tutoring, helping with meals, getting the kids ready for bed, reading to the kids, and playing. I'm happy to assist with simple cooking, cleaning, school or extra curricular pick up (if my schedule allows) and running errands. Years ago, my first profile picture on this site was criticized by a potential family for being too strange. I picked one way stranger in response (me in a unicorn onesie) until the 2024 powers that be on this site recently called it inappropriate. So, now I’ve found one off the charts strange with my head half shaved in the middle of a home COVID haircut ;-). Children are SO important to me—yes that means physical safety, but for me it also involves emotional safety. I want deeply for children and young people to love themselves and find their voices as they grow, but to do that they need to see adults who appreciate and take joy in their own uniqueness. That, more than any resume point, is what I offer to kids and families with fierce commitment. I have worked with children and young people in a variety of settings for thirty years. In my early days there was the usual teenage babysitting. I have also worked for summer camps and non-profits--designing, leading, and overseeing children's activities and programs. Next, I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English for the last thirteen years in both Southern California and the Bay Area, followed by ten years of nannying for children of all ages. Finally, I have started to move very organically into parental coaching, upon request of families I care/have cared for. I have special insight into neurodivergent kids and school engagement struggles. I am certified in CPR, First Aid, AED, have taken expressive arts therapy training, and have had multiple experiences working with autistic young people, in addition to being autistic myself. I am happy to help older children with their English homework and do Elmo's voice for the younger children in the fort we just built :) I am tidy, punctual, and you will not find me on my phone or devices while my attention should be on your child. Hi- My name is Susana, I have been around children my whole life since my mom did a lot of babysitting when I was younger. I had the opportunity to learn a lot of things from her such as supervising children, practicing good hygiene, and organizing age-appropriate activities. Hello Families, My name is Dora. I graduated from the University of Washington and am currently pursuing a Master’s in Teaching and a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I come from a family of educators, and working with children has always been an important part of my life. I have extensive experience working with children from infancy through elementary school, including experience as a preschool teacher, substitute teacher, private tutor, and childcare provider. My background in education and childcare has given me a strong understanding of child development, positive guidance, classroom routines, and age-appropriate learning and play. I’m CPR certified and a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator, with additional training in autism and neurodiversity. Working with children is something I truly enjoy, especially getting to know each child’s personality and interests. Reading, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, board games, and trips to the park are some of my favorite things to do with kids. Activities can always be adjusted based on the child’s interests and the family’s routine. However, my availability is currently limited, and I’m mainly accepting occasional bookings that are a good mutual fit.
