Hi parents, my name is Melissa. I am 30 and currently in school completing science classes and now applying to nursing programs. Because of this career path I’m choosing, I have sought after my CPR certification and an EMT certification. I’m certified by American Heart Association and certified by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, as well as the state of CA. I completed my EMT training at Citrus College. I am now working full-time as an EMT. I began babysitting when I was 11 years old, taking care of my little brother and any children belonging to family and friends. Not only have I babysat children, but I have coached and tutored them as well. I was previously employed by Jumpstart (AmeriCorps) to help teach preschool children in low income communities. Because of this, I took 2 child development courses and extensive training, which helped me to continue working with children through UrbanSitter since 2015. Side note: In my video, i accidentally said that I have experience with children between 2 and 3, but I have babysat children between the ages of 2 and 14. I have previously worked with infants and toddlers (0-3) as an early interventionist/child development specialist. So I have lots of experience with children of all ages & developmental levels (: I’ve also worked with summer programs, volunteered in children’s hospitals & have babysat professionally for 10+ years. I have done everything from long term, date nights, classroom pods, play dates, school or practice pickups, overnights & weekends. I’m a parent of 1, my daughter is now an adult. I retired from the Army after 20yrs in 2016. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and have worked(played) in their nursery for over a year in my church. I have also taught in Sunday school 3-5yr olds and 12-15 yr olds. I love babysitting kids because I only had 1 and wanted more. I wouldn't have been able to continue in my career or make it to retirement if it wasn't for the babysitters & family I had for my daughter. I’ve lived in multiple states and 2 other countries as well as visited 19 countries for work. I love “working” with kids because they are nonjudgmental, carefree and a great reminder to slow down and enjoy simple things in life. I am Howard University alumnae. I love having an active lifestyle. I’ve been babysitting for the past fourteen years. I teach children from 2-18 years old how to play golf. I love to complete puzzles, play outside, and play with toys. When it comes to deciding one over the other, I would much rather read to your children than have them stare at a television screen.
