I have been a classroom teacher for eighteen years and I absolutely love my job. Recently, I have stepped away to find more flexibility and time to care for my 10 year old and work on art projects. Most of my experience has been working with communities and schools that serve a high proportion of students learning English as a second language and high rates of free or reduced lunch. Meeting the diverse needs of students has been a joy and a welcomed challenge. Their curiosity is inspiring and I feel incredibly fortunate to guide and teach these children. I believe strongly in integrating subject matter wherever possible and working closely with colleagues to provide the best possible education for each student. As my career has progressed, I have started exploring alternative ways of educating including Land Based Education, student led, subject integrated projects and social/emotional regulation skills based on art, music, and nature therapy. My education includes a Masters in Teaching from the University of Washington, a Master of Arts in Zoology from Miami University and a NBC for Middle Childhood Generalist (recently renewed until 2030).
