Hi! I’m Journie! 💕 I’m a college student, athlete, and future teacher who loves staying active and spending time with kids. I played basketball at Morton College and have wrestled since sixth grade, including competing in freestyle wrestling at Fargo and receiving a wrestling scholarship. Outside of sports, I love being outdoors, exploring nature, reading, and singing. I’m also studying Early Childhood Education because I hope to become a teacher one day. I’ve been working with children for almost three years as a kids counselor at my local park district. I spent two years with the Mavericks program, working with K–3rd graders, and this year I work with Trailblazers, working with 3rd–6th graders. I help supervise kids, organize activities, play sports like basketball and soccer, and even help run sports programs at the park district. Hi all, my name is Sara! I've lived in Chicago since I was 4 years old and absolutely love the city. I graduated from UIC College Prep and earned my bachelor's in business management from Hope College in Holland, MI. During college, I started volunteering in my church's kids' ministry and quickly realized how much I enjoy working with children. This led me to become the childcare coordinator at BLVD Church, where I worked for two years. In that role, I organized and led classrooms of up to 20 children ranging from nursery to elementary age. I was responsible for developing lesson plans, managing volunteers, keeping kids engaged and safe, and communicating with parents-all at the same time. This experience really helped me grow in multitasking, quick problem solving, and staying calm under pressure. I also babysat regularly for several families from BLVD during college, which allowed me to work with children of all ages and personalities. After graduating in May 2024, I moved back to Chicago and cared part-time for two boys, ages 1 and 5, for about 7 months. I am currently working full-time as a Financial Aid Assistant at a university, but I continue to look for opportunities to care for little ones because it's something I truly love and feel gifted in. As a caregiver, I bring a patient, compassionate, and responsible presence. I'm someone who naturally stays organized and pays close attention to detail, whether I'm preparing meals, planning engaging activities, or handling nap schedules.
