I’m originally from the Pacific Northwest but moved to New York to explore job options in childcare, fashion, public relations, and the arts. I learned more about how much care, time, and attention children require after caring for a 2 and 5 year old for three years. In high school, I was a camp counselor for my school’s outdoor program and a swim instructor for children aged 3-8. I also consistently volunteered at kids basketball games, book fairs, field trips, and art classes. Post high school, I studied marketing for two years at Walla Walla Community College. I then completed the AmeriCorps NCCC program, where I traveled with a team to Texas and Colorado to assist communities in need with long term disaster recovery, mold remediation, environmental conservation, and more. One of the main reasons I love working with children is their innate love for exploration, creativity, and learning: just like myself! I believe that children need a strong, safe, and trustworthy support system to thrive and I will provide all of those qualities. I love to paint, sing, dance, read, write, craft, spend time in nature, and explore new places- all of which are traits that I directly apply when working with children. Through AmeriCorps, I was given the chance to volunteer weekly at a boys and girls clubs and that was my favorite volunteer opportunity by far. I helped the kids move through their activities, identify various emotions, set boundaries with peers by saying “stop!” or “i do not like that!”, and focusing on creating a safe space for them to feel heard, understood, and regulated. In addition to childcare, I am experienced in caring for dogs, cats, chickens, beta fish, bunnies, and geckos (my family had a lot of pets!). Additionally, having worked several customer service jobs and maintained the cleanliness of spaces throughout the years, I am highly experienced in housekeeping services and running errands.
