Hello families! I am a teacher of English as a New Language at a middle school here in Brooklyn, supporting students grades 5-8 with their English language acquisition. I come with an extensive background, and am excited to find roles with potential for a long-term partnership! The cornerstones of my style would be fun, structure, and close collaboration with the family. What this looks like is unique to each family and each role, and I come with lots of questions. It's important to me to establish a foundation of communication early on and to align my approach with the family's values. In the past, this has meant getting outside, art or cooking projects, indoor play with games and manipulatives, and reading, all organized around meal and rest/nap times. Hi, my name is Sam! I love working with children of all ages but have the most experience with kids 3-12. I’m originally from the Pacific Northwest but moved to New York to explore job options in childcare, fashion, public relations, and the arts. I learned more about how much care, time, and attention children require after caring for a 2 and 5 year old for three years. In high school, I was a camp counselor for my school’s outdoor program and a swim instructor for children aged 3-8. I also consistently volunteered at kids basketball games, book fairs, field trips, and art classes. Post high school, I studied marketing for two years at Walla Walla Community College. I then completed the AmeriCorps NCCC program, where I traveled with a team to Texas and Colorado to assist communities in need with long term disaster recovery, mold remediation, environmental conservation, and more.
