My name is Tori, and I have worked with children in many different capacities for 15 years. I started coaching gymnastics when I was in highschool and have never quit teaching or caring for children since then. I began as a gymnastics and dance teacher and then started babysitting regularly while dancing professionally. I then became a teacher at a tutoring center that assisted neurodivergent children with school activities and development, I worked my way up to lead teacher and worked closely with a mentor to expand my knowledge in childhood development and teaching critical reading skills. When I moved to New York I became a part time nanny and began teaching gymnastics and dance again, in private studios. I also taught in afterschool programming for dance and gymnastics and theater. I’m originally from the Pacific Northwest but moved to New York to explore job options in childcare, fashion, public relations, and the arts. I learned more about how much care, time, and attention children require after caring for a 2 and 5 year old for three years. In high school, I was a camp counselor for my school’s outdoor program and a swim instructor for children aged 3-8. I also consistently volunteered at kids basketball games, book fairs, field trips, and art classes. Post high school, I studied marketing for two years at Walla Walla Community College. I then completed the AmeriCorps NCCC program, where I traveled with a team to Texas and Colorado to assist communities in need with long term disaster recovery, mold remediation, environmental conservation, and more. One of the main reasons I love working with children is their innate love for exploration, creativity, and learning: just like myself! I believe that children need a strong, safe, and trustworthy support system to thrive and I will provide all of those qualities. I love to paint, sing, dance, read, write, craft, spend time in nature, and explore new places- all of which are traits that I directly apply when working with children. Through AmeriCorps, I was given the chance to volunteer weekly at a boys and girls clubs and that was my favorite volunteer opportunity by far. I helped the kids move through their activities, identify various emotions, set boundaries with peers by saying “stop!” or “i do not like that!”, and focusing on creating a safe space for them to feel heard, understood, and regulated. In addition to childcare, I am experienced in caring for dogs, cats, chickens, beta fish, bunnies, and geckos (my family had a lot of pets!). Additionally, having worked several customer service jobs and maintained the cleanliness of spaces throughout the years, I am highly experienced in housekeeping services and running errands.
