Hello families! I’m excited to meet you and your kiddos! I’m Maria but children like using my nickname, Ria 😊 I've been in Portland for most of my life. I love it here, especially the proximity to all the natural beauty and the ocean. I'm a passionate hiker and always chasing the next waterfall. I have 20+ years of experience in childcare, from infants to teens. I have been co-parenting my young niece and nephew for 5 years, I was a foster mother for a year and I’ve cared for many other children through the years, so I have a wide range of experience. I believe in creating a safe, nurturing environment for children to experience their journeys. I encourage children to express themselves and explore the world through creation, imagination, playtime, activities, movement, games, singing, exploring nature, reading and most of all, FUN! I love a good little dance party. I will keep your child(ren) engaged during our time together! My belief is that children are simply young people exploring their way through this wonderful and sometimes challenging world. What an honor for us as adults to help guide them on their journeys. I am happy to prepare meals and clean up during my visit as it relates to your child’s care, but my priority is to focus on your child(ren) during our time together. I’m available for some house cleaning for an additional charge (at naptime or after bedtime, for example). I’m available for part time and occasional care, including overnight stays. I’m also available for pet and housesitting. I’m an excellent communicator and will keep you informed throughout your time away, as frequently or infrequently as you prefer. I have a reliable car, I’m punctual and I’m flexible if you need to be out later than planned (most times). Please reach out if you have any questions or special circumstances or requests. I look forward to meeting you!

Wonderful and communicative and easy going.

Unavailable from 7/14-8/29 Hello! After graduating with my Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a minor in psychology, I was offered the opportunity to substitute teach for the school district. For six years I was lucky enough to be a substitute teacher for ages K-12. My passion for child development and psychology makes me eager to provide children with an environment conducive to being a healthy and happy child, while catering to each child's uniqueness and supporting their greatest endeavors. Because of my wide range of substituting, I have experience with behavioral differences, children of all levels of skillset, mindset, backgrounds, and ages. Much of my time was spent at the Montessori school working with gifted students and the other bit of my time was at the behavioral academy for children who benefitted from a bit more TLC, in between these extremes I was regularly subbing in traditional classrooms. Due to the pandemic, and the closure of schools, I began working in research and development at a lab in Washington and I have since dabbled in healthcare as a CNA, doing so was rewarding and helped solidify my passion for caring for others and taught me a great deal about caring for seniors as well. My current career goals are centered to be in healthcare within the next year. In my free time you can find me in the sunshine, chasing my crazy beagle, paddle boarding, and experimenting in the kitchen.

Hi there! I have a bachelors in both English and Social Justice from Dominican University of California, and am currently a JD Candidate at Lewis &Clark Law School. I grew up watching my siblings before moving on to paid jobs with family friends and cousins, and when I started college I started nannying more seriously. When I lived in LA, I worked with several different families for small weekly jobs and worked with one family four to five days a week, taking their four kids to numerous activities and after school events. Since moving to Portland two years ago, I spent the last year and a half nannying for a family with 10 year old twins. I have experience working with infants up to 12 years old, and after tutoring high school kids I’m sure I could handle teenagers as well. Let me know if I can answer any questions, I can’t wait to work with you!

Kids loved her. My older son said he wanted her to babysit for “30 weeks”

Hi my name is Sam (they/them/ any pronouns) and I bring over five years of hands-on childcare experience and a truly heartfelt approach to the families I support. I have worked as a live-in nanny, assistant teacher, and even a lice technician, giving myself a well-rounded, practical skill set and a calm confidence in a variety of situations. In addition to childcare. I currently work part-time as a hairstylist while continuing their passion for nannying. I have experience supporting both adults and children with disabilities and neurodivergent needs. As someone who is neurodivergent myself , I bring deep empathy, understanding, and patience into their work. Families often appreciate my naturally calm presence, gentle demeanor, and their ability to create a safe, steady environment for children to thrive. Sam has cared for children ranging from 3-month-old infants to 13-year-olds and genuinely loves engaging with kids at every stage. Sam is creative, enjoys imaginative and pretend play, and meets children where they are — honoring their personalities, emotions, and developmental needs along the way. Clear, open communication is very important to me. I value honesty and collaboration with families and believes strong partnerships are built through trust and transparency. Above all, I truly love working with children and building meaningful, lasting connections with the families they support. I would be delighted to connect and answer any questions you may have.

Sam sat my two dogs (14 week old puppy and an 8 year old). Sam listened well when I was giving instructions about my care preferences. Sam took them for a walk and was attentive to their needs for the time Sam was taking care of them. I will definitely work with Sam again!

Hello, I am a simple country boy growing up on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania. I am the youngest of seven children and all my siblings are married and live on farms. On many occasions, I sat for my 40-45nieces and nephews and took care of the farm work as well. I love children and animals.

"We absolutely LOVE Isa — our family was so fortunate to have found her through UrbanSitter. I'm a first-time mom, and it took me a long time to find a full-time nanny I could trust to care for our sweet infant boy. Our boy connected with her immediately, and we couldn't have asked for anyone else to care for him. Her calming presence was also perfect for parents like us who work from home. We feel so lucky UrbanSitter helped us find someone who has truly become a part of our family."

"I was so stressed about finding a part-time nanny for my 14-month-old son, who has moderate separation anxiety and hadn't been left with anyone but family before, but we were both immediately at ease in Buhay's presence. Her empathy and commitment to understanding child development are apparent in every interaction I've witnessed between her and my toddler. I feel very lucky to have found her."

"Erna watched our now 5 year old daughter and 3 year old son for a few years. She is punctual, responsible, honest, and playful. What we appreciated most was that she was thoughtful in ensuring that we had a little break; for example, when the kids were clingy, she was able to divert their attention with games or songs or walks to the park. We felt very comfortable leaving our kids with Erna because of her caring nature and experience that spans a decade (including being a live-in nanny)."
