Booked by 23 families in Long Beach, CA

I have over 30 years of childcare experience both privately and professionally. I am a homeschool parent to 4 young children, including 3 teenagers. While I was in college to obtain a bachelor's in education, I worked as both a nanny and in a daycare for the local school district. I believe that children are full humans deserving of the same respect we would give any adult. I prefer gentle parenting and guidance in lieu of punishment. As a mom, I am well versed with the complex inner workings of running a household. I cook, clean, and everything else for my own family. As for pets, I am a proud kitty mama and have assisted in raising over 50 neonatal kittens as a foster volunteer.

Education: Hi, my name is Mariel. I graduated from San Diego State University in May of 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a double minor in Child and Family Development and Spanish. I am fluent in English and Spanish. About me: I am 34 years old. I was born in San Diego. I recently moved to the South Bay with my family. I’m a proud mom to two young children, ages 2 and 5. Work experience: I have over 10 years of experience working with children in a variety of settings. I spent more than four years as a preschool teacher, where I worked with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children. I also worked for over three years as a behavior therapist, supporting young children on the spectrum. Most recently, I worked as a nanny for a wonderful family for nearly three years. Throughout the years, I have also babysat for many families between full-time positions. Currently, I run my own daycare, where I provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children to learn and grow. My experience includes working in classroom settings, providing 1:1 support and caring for multiple siblings in a home environment. I am familiar with the Taking Cara Babies sleep program, Baby-Led Weaning and the Big Little Feelings approach. I enjoy creating fun, educational and age-appropriate activities while maintaining a warm and supportive atmosphere. Working with children is truly a joy. They remind me every day to appreciate the little moments while learning, growing and having fun together Availability: I’m currently available for occasional babysitting jobs, primarily on weekends and weeknights. I’d love the opportunity to work with you and your little one(s)!

This is our 2nd time booking Mariel and she was great again.

Serenity Lakewood
$25 per hour for 1 child

Child care: Hello! My name is Serenity and I have been working in childcare since I was 14. I am one of 48 cousins so for as long as I can remember, I have always been taking care of someone younger than myself. I have worked as a full time nanny to a family with an infant under 8 months. This included being home alone for 8+ hours and in charge of all care. I followed a strict sleep schedule and routine. Prepared bottles and purées. Reference available for contact. As well as done over night shifts to help with sleep training and regression. I have been called the “baby whisperer” by more than one. I believe with patients, a calm energy, and a strong routine, all infants can be sleep trained easily. I am also a high school and travel ball softball coach so my training in CPR/First Aide/Basic medical care is very extensive as it’s required for those positions. I am also fluent in ASL and studied child development at Golden West College. I enjoy art, sports, adventures, learning, and all things fun! Elderly care: I grew up living with my grandmother who had COPD. I was one of her main caregivers for the better half of 5 years. I helped schedule and monitor doctor’s visits. Kept her on a very strict schedule that followed her doctor’s instructions, administered medication, picked up medications, drove her anywhere her heart desired, and spent so many hours watching the cooking network. But always found every second so much fun. I worked as a patient services supervisor for a very reputable physical therapy company so I understand the details of American health insurance better than most. I also learned many fall prevention, basic mobility training, and mobility support throughout my years there. I have always been someone who loves to spend my time with the generations from before me. Before she passed, my great grandma, who lived in Apple Valley, and I would talk on the phone almost daily, spend hours writing letters back and forth because she felt it was a lost art, went on road trips with over 16 hour long drives. Just chatting and enjoying. I love old movies, TV shows, music and am happy to help with any needs to help the person in your life in any way I can. While also hopefully alleviating any stress from you any way I can.

Shay 1 review
Carson
$21 per hour for 1 child

My name is Shay, and I’ve spent over 10 years caring for children of all ages—from newborns to teenagers—both in the U.S. and overseas. I’ve taught English through my church, helped care for children within my own family, and supported new mothers as they adjusted after welcoming their babies. I’m a caring, patient, and reliable babysitter who loves creating a safe, calm environment for children. I’m attentive, nurturing, and respectful of family routines, and I’m happy to help with playtime, meals, and light tidying. I take children’s safety and parents’ trust very seriously and am open to occasional or regular babysitting.

I have observed Shay caring for children ranging from infants to teens. She has generously volunteered her time to care for pastors’ children during their busy schedules. Shay is well-loved by the children and consistently welcomes them with warmth, kindness, and a positive demeanor. As a parent of an infant myself, I have personally experienced her attentiveness—when Shay babysits for me, she takes immediate, proactive care of my child, allowing me to focus fully on my work with confidence and peace of mind. I confidently recommend Shay to anyone looking for a trustworthy, attentive, and compassionate babysitter.
