Hello Families, My name is Dora. I graduated from the University of Washington and am currently pursuing a Master’s in Teaching and a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I come from a family of educators, and working with children has always been an important part of my life. I have extensive experience working with children from infancy through elementary school, including experience as a preschool teacher, substitute teacher, private tutor, and childcare provider. My background in education and childcare has given me a strong understanding of child development, positive guidance, classroom routines, and age-appropriate learning and play. I’m CPR certified and a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator, with additional training in autism and neurodiversity. Working with children is something I truly enjoy, especially getting to know each child’s personality and interests. Reading, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, board games, and trips to the park are some of my favorite things to do with kids. Activities can always be adjusted based on the child’s interests and the family’s routine. However, my availability is currently limited, and I’m mainly accepting occasional bookings that are a good mutual fit. I graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Biology, B.S. but I was a transfer student from Foothill College in Los Altos, CA. Growing up, i played basketball, volleyball and swimming. I swam collegiately for 2 years. I have been babysitting for over 13 years and have had a wide range of experience. I have babysat children from the ages of 3 months until 12 years old and have taken on a variety of different tasks with families. I have helped with homework, bed time routines, mommy’s helper (including dishes, organizing, floor cleaning, etc), and so much more. I currently work full time at Stanford University for the Department of Emergency Medicine as a Project Manager for both Strategy and DEI. Years ago, my first profile picture on this site was criticized by a potential family for being too strange. I picked one way stranger in response (me in a unicorn onesie) until the 2024 powers that be on this site recently called it inappropriate. So, now I’ve found one off the charts strange with my head half shaved in the middle of a home COVID haircut ;-). Children are SO important to me—yes that means physical safety, but for me it also involves emotional safety. I want deeply for children and young people to love themselves and find their voices as they grow, but to do that they need to see adults who appreciate and take joy in their own uniqueness. That, more than any resume point, is what I offer to kids and families with fierce commitment. I have worked with children and young people in a variety of settings for thirty years. In my early days there was the usual teenage babysitting. I have also worked for summer camps and non-profits--designing, leading, and overseeing children's activities and programs. Next, I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English for the last thirteen years in both Southern California and the Bay Area, followed by ten years of nannying for children of all ages. Finally, I have started to move very organically into parental coaching, upon request of families I care/have cared for. I have special insight into neurodivergent kids and school engagement struggles. I am certified in CPR, First Aid, AED, have taken expressive arts therapy training, and have had multiple experiences working with autistic young people, in addition to being autistic myself. I am happy to help older children with their English homework and do Elmo's voice for the younger children in the fort we just built :) I am tidy, punctual, and you will not find me on my phone or devices while my attention should be on your child. I am currently working in a TK classroom at an elementary school in Santa Clara. I also go to school full time. I would like to pick up some occasional babysitting hours in the evenings and on weekends. I have always enjoyed working with children and their families. I have past experience with all ages, infant through school age. My job titles included babysitter, teacher' s aide, teacher and center director. I began babysitting for family friends in high school and later moved on to child care center based positions. I did take a break to be at home with my daughter and was able to take some ECE classes as well. I have experience as the primary caregiver at a nursery center for ages 6 months to 2 years. I was also the director of a Child Development Center as well as a before and after school teacher. I have also cared for young children in my home which included overnight accommodations as needed by the families. I really enjoy a play based atmosphere.
