Hi! My name is Cris I am from the Dominican Republic and I am based in Brooklyn. I have a BA in Anthropology + Social Practice. I have 4 years of experience in education: 2 years working in elementary after school programs as a creative writing teacher + 2 years as a full time middle school humanities teacher. Every summer for the last two years I have worked part time in a daycare, primarily caring for infants and toddlers. I currently work as an ELA teacher at an arts high school. I am passionate about community organization, art, literature, and learning. While enrolled in a research program in Costa Rica I worked in a small rural primary school as a teacher’s aid and English + Social Sciences instructor. I mostly worked with children ages 3-12 as well as children with special needs and disabilities. During this time I helped the school community organize fun and unique activities for the students and worked directly with parents to assist in their children's progress. Since then I have been part-time babysitting here in the states. My time working with children has taught me how to encourage, support, and provide a sense of safety and care. Overseeing both large and small classrooms has made me well equipped to handle and diffuse high stress situations with patience and caution. I would describe myself as a high energy, compassionate, patient sitter with a big heart. I enjoy teaching and reading to children, working on arts and crafts projects, and engaging their creativity.
