Greetings families :) I was born and raised in the Philippines where I gained experience teaching children basic reading, writing, drawing, and conflict resolution during high school. I have been in the US since July 2011. I graduated from Santa Monica College with high honors in Early Childhood Education in June 2019. I earned my BA in Child Development from CA State University Long Beach with Magna Cum Laude honors in Fall 2021. I've gained practicum experience at the Growing Place Ocean Park and Marine Campus which both hold the same philosophy I believe in - constructivism. Through this lens, children learn best through play - based on their interests and engagement, which encompasses a broad spectrum of academic subject matter including science, math, arts, and problem solving. Play also presents the opportunity for children to develop prosocial behavior and self-regulation among peers, necessary to succeed not just in academia but in life. I am also a firm advocate of respectful, responsive, and reciprocal care wherein children are valued with consistency. Hello! My name is Skylar Kennedy and I have always known that I love working with kids. I am the oldest of 7 children and started looking after the little ones very early on. Then in my teens and early 20s I started coaching Pop Warner cheer, working in children's theatre groups, and babysitting as much as possible. I started being a nanny at 19years old and just kept up the momentum. I now have worked with over 100 kiddos ranging in age from 3weeks to 15 years old. I also have extensive experience with children on the spectrum, kids with verbal or developmental delays, deaf or non verbal, ADHD, and Anxiety disorders. I am currently finishing up my bachelor's degree in child development and have my first aid/CPR certification. My approach with kids is just meeting them where they are and understanding that children learn and communicate through play. There's so much value in making a mess and/or playing outside as much as possible. Everything can be a learning experience without it even feeling like we have taught a child anything because we just had so much fun getting dirty and cleaning up together. For jobs 3 days or less per week and one time bookings, I do have a late cancellation policy. Cancellations with less than 24hrs notice will result in a 1/2 payment. Ex: if my projected pay was 100$ for the day, the late payment would be 50$. For full time families, I require guaranteed hours per week, paid on the books through a payroll service at 30-40$ per hour depending on responsibilities and number of children. I also prefer to negotiate for holiday/sick days (typically 2 weeks vacation and 1 weeks work of sick time but again we can negotiate a bit!)
