I started working as a mother's helper at the age of 10, and have been babysitting ever since! In high school I worked as a nanny 20 hours a week for a wonderful family with two infants, and also volunteered at Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital to ensure children separated from their parents for long periods of time were receiving the critical attention needed to develop their gross and fine motor skills. During college I worked as an occasional sitter for many different families in the D.C. area. I have been living in New York for about 5 years now and work full-time as a Copywriter at a creative agency, so I just take a few babysitting jobs each month on nights and weekend :) For five summers when I was 18-23, I worked as a counselor at Camp Onaway, a sleep-away camp for girls ages 8-15 in New Hampshire. After graduating from the University of Maryland in December 2016, I worked at a Swiss boarding school as a dorm counselor, Spanish Instructor, and as a ski instructor. In short, I LOVE hanging out with kids both younger and older! I have ample experience with newborns, infants, and toddlers, and I love kids of all ages and needs. I have babysat for children with special needs and behavioral differences, and I am always happy to accommodate any communication/behavioral/educational methods that your family prefers (though I do not have any specific certifications or training for different needs). I speak Russian and Spanish and I am happy to help children learning either language by simply speaking to them or working on certain vocabulary. I am happy to tidy the house or help out in the kitchen when babysitting, help with homework, run errands, etc. Thanks for your consideration!

$25 per hour for 1 child
Booked by 12 families in Long Island City, NY

Hello my name is Sherley I’m 24 years old, a recent graduate from St. Francis College. I'd describe my personality as attentive, compassionate and caring. I started working with kids when I was 14, I started at a day care center and gradually started as a paraprofessional. Currently I work as a Care manager. Working with children allows you to see growth and progress in amazing, measurable ways. While there may be setbacks, you will see the joy on each child's face as they learn new things from you. Working with kids is fun, no single day is the same. Children make you a more knowledgeable person: Children are, by nature, very curious. Working with children reminds you of how amazing and exciting the world can be. My skills include being Patient, understanding and compassionate. I am comfortable with pets. No allergies!

Sherley arrived on time and was very warm and friendly. She engaged my son in one of his preferred activities and was responsive when we texted to check in. We felt comfortable with her and would be glad to hire her again.

Hi! My name’s Guadalupe, and I’ve always had a natural talent for caring for others and creating calm, positive environments. I have several years of experience working with children—everything from school pick-ups and homework help to planning fun outings and bedtime routines. I’m patient, responsible, and very organized, which helps me stay on top of daily tasks while keeping kids happy and safe. I’ve also helped with light household duties like meal prep, laundry, and tidying up, and I’m comfortable around pets (I’ve cared for both dogs and cats). Families I’ve worked with describe me as reliable, warm, and communicative. I really enjoy building trusting relationships and becoming part of a family’s support system.
