I have been caring for children since I was 14 years old, beginning with babysitting and later helping my mom with her home daycare while I was in high school. I am also a mom to 14 year old twin boys, so I have extensive hands-on experience caring for children and managing the needs and personalities of multiple children at once. As my twins have gotten older, I’ve found myself missing the younger years and the joy of caring for little ones. That is one of the reasons I’m excited to work with younger children again. I genuinely love working with kids and enjoy creating a fun, safe, and positive environment for them. I understand that every child is different and have experience with the different stages of child development, from infants and toddlers through school-age children and teenagers. I’m also attentive to children’s individual needs and believe in providing a caregiver experience where children feel safe, comfortable, supported, and able to have fun! I currently own and operate a hair salon, and I am looking to add childcare to my life in a way that allows me to continue doing both. Owning a salon has strengthened my organization, communication, time management skills. It has also taught me how to build trust, maintain a welcoming environment, and provide personalized attention qualities I bring to childcare as well. Hey hey! I am a current college student, with a future in teaching. My experience with kids is primarily casual (non-professional), as I have babysat for my friends, coworkers, and neighbours— and spent some time in my church’s toddler nursery on Sundays. Professionally, I work customer facing jobs (server, barista, cashier), so families are commonly around me. Also, I was a teacher at the Boys and Girls Club (3rd grade). Babysitting is as serious and impactful as being a nanny or au pair. It is less time on a schedule, or less responsibilities around the house, but the children are still influenced. Being on the same page with the parents is, obviously, important; translating the parent’s rules to maintain the fun environment created for the children is equally important. People joke that toddlers/kids and Seniors are very similar. In a funny way, yes. In a serious way, also yes. Patience, fostering independence, maintaining schedules. Oh, and, listening to stories.
