Hello everyone! My name is Olivia and I have been working with children of all ages since I was 11 years old. My brother was born at that time and I played a big part in caring for him, raising him, and teaching him essential life skills. I have worked as an assistant teacher at a STEM-based preschool for multiple years and still stay in contact with parents and children who graduated from the school. In my community, I am very well-known for babysitting young children and parents usually come to me first if they need care for their child. I am also the daughter of a preschool teacher, and she has taught me endless things about how to care for, support, encourage, and enlighten kids. In the 2[removed] school year, I worked in two classroom settings with adults and elementary schoolers diagnosed with moderate-severe autism and other neurological disabilities (ex: Down Syndrome, Angolan Syndrome, etc.). In class, we taught essential life skills, including but not limited to: how to use money, how to behave politely in public settings, self-advocacy, public transportation use, etc. This last school year, I worked in the Special Ed class at another elementary school; the class was primarily with 5th graders experiencing high levels of ADHD, behavioral issues, learning disabilities, and mild-mod autism. This year I've also been a 1:1 Behavior Technician for a Kindergarten-age child with autism, staying with him in the gen-ed class and introducing him to the rhythm and routine of school; essentially preparing him for the rest of his educational journey. I was also a class-aide for the gen-ed Kindergartners, and I have experience working in many other classrooms including gen-ed and for Special Ed children on all different points of the spectrum.
