Greetings! :-)
In addition to graduating from college with an Elementary Education degree and an interest in Early Childhood Education, I have had quite an extensive career as a nanny and babysitter which I've loved from the start! Always with an openness and willingness to learn and work hard, I began at the young age of 10 as a mother's helper diligently taking care of her 18- month-old little girl and infant baby boy. I was a nanny for the summer before college caring for a 3-year-old little girl and her newborn baby brother. During my college years, I was a summer day camp counselor for 6 & 7-year-olds and an after school sitter for two sisters, ages 4 & 9. I'm energetic and enthusiastic, striving to be industrious and creative with a positive, can-do attitude and good sense of humor! :-) I coordinated play dates, indoor & outdoor recreational activities, arts & crafts projects, beach and park outings, cooking & baking, introduced and read books, and supervised homework study. I love children's literature, reading and singing with them to foster interaction and encourage connections for growth and taking them to the library for story hour. I enjoy staying active, the outdoors and adventure, going for walks to the playground and through the park to experience the fresh air and the beauty of nature and animals. As a career nanny with all my experience, I am comfortable with a variety of ages, individually and in groups! I have also volunteered as a catechist in my parish religious education program in which I taught the 3rd and 5th grades along with grades 1-8 Liturgy of the Word. It was a lovely experience because we stressed the importance of impressing upon children a sense of empathy, trust, forgiveness, gratitude, and a desire to give back in service, thereby encouraging personal growth and a sense of inner peace. I believe it is important to take into account the child as a whole person of mind, body, and spirit to nurture in them a healthy balance. I feel children work to their full potential with lots of patience and gentle encouragement to always persevere and not give up, along with plenty of positive feedback and constructive criticism focusing on their strengths to remediate the weaknesses. Nurturing in children a positive self-esteem and inner strength is crucial for their ability to connect with themselves and others. I have observed they thrive on consistency and structure as I'm also mindful of the importance to remain flexible and adapt to their changing needs when the situation calls for it. Certified as a baby nurse as well as in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid, I have common sense and excellent judgement with the ability to multitask and prioritize, thinking ahead carefully and quickly on my feet. I also have a driver's license, am a nonsmoker, and can speak, read, and write basic Spanish. I adore my 12 year old cat, Jake, along with all other animals! Neat and organized, I'm sure to tidy up after myself and the children to maintain cleanliness and order. I enjoy working with young people because it's the chance to teach and model mutual respect, thoughtfulness and consideration for others, thereby being a positive role model in their lives. I'm honest and trustworthy, reliable and punctual, and an efficient communicator to work together with you as a team! I consider it an honor to work along side you aiming to provide the best quality of care for your child/children. I'd be happy to provide my resume/references, speak over the phone and meet in person to speak further about the role to learn how I can properly and specifically serve you and your child/children's needs!
My best,
Katie
