Hi! I’m Roxy. I started babysitting almost 15 years ago and have since worked as a nanny/babysitter and in education, from classrooms and private tutoring to developing an SEL curriculum for elementary school-aged girls. In this time, I’ve worked with children of all ages and have really enjoyed getting to know the different milestones, interests, and needs that come with each age. I really enjoy getting to know each child and finding ways to keep them engaged while supporting their development. Depending on age, some of my favorite ways to spend time with kids are getting outside, reading together, doing art projects, baking, and finding activities that match their interests. With babies and young toddlers, I especially enjoy paying attention to what they’re learning at each stage and finding fun, age-appropriate ways to support their development, encourage their growing independence and communication skills, and keep them interested and learning as they grow. I believe in helping children develop curiosity, compassion, independence, and social awareness from a young age by giving them space to express themselves and explore the world around them, while also helping them learn to understand and regulate big feelings and navigate relationships with others. I have a bachelor’s degree and speak some Spanish and a little Arabic. I’m also infant and pediatric CPR/first aid certified, comfortable with pets, and have a clean driving record. I’m happy to provide references from families I’ve previously worked for. I’m ideally looking for full-time or near-full-time work with a baby or toddler who isn’t in school yet, but I’m also open to part-time care, nanny shares, and one-time babysitting when my schedule allows. A little about myself — My name is Amanda (it’s also my legal name alongside my Burmese) I’m a Design&Tech student at Parsons; I took a gap year before I got to New York and spent the year doing community service by teaching English to underprivileged/orphaned kids in Burma, along with several law internships (big leap between left&right brain). Over the years I’ve found that not only do I get along with children, I’m also the floofy-lucid-dreamy person among my friends haha. I like to think I’m very easygoing and fun to be around and I’m very good with playing along the lines of silly & stern. I spend most of my time with kids (if we’re indoors) talking to them, asking many many questions, and always making them feel like their voices are heard as a person and not just as a child, but of course I’ve also always been a sporty person so we usually go on adventures around the city and play sports!! I love drawing from these experiences and using them in my creative conceptual work as well. I’m also a HUGE reader, and it’s part of the package that you may lose your children to the harry potter cult. P.S. Once I dropped a bowl of fudge in front of a kid, and I said, “Oh fudge” which shows that I am child appropriate AND have a sense of humor.
