Hello! My name is Mary and I'm excited to start working with you. I have a BA in English Lit with a minor in French. After graduating college I spent a year in France teaching English to French high schoolers. Before doing that I was a reading tutor and baby sat for many wonderful families, including families with autistic and ADHD sons. I have also worked as a skills coach for developmentally disabled adults and feel comfortable working with kids of different ability levels. My motto as a caregiver is patients, compassion, and most importantly having fun will make everyone's experience great. I am also a professional baker and pastry cook, and love to cook for kids or with them! I've been living in Portland for about 5 years now and I love this beautiful city and all it has to offer. Hello my name is Ilyssa, I have 6 years of experience working in education, ranging between preschool through high school age groups. The youngest being a 6 week old infant and oldest being 20. I currently work as an RBT at a transitional school for autistic individuals who exhibit aggressive behaviors. I am trained to teach with ABA techniques and am also CPI certified to deescalate emergency situations. I am CPR and AED certified for infants and children as well as adults. I am a mother of 7 and a youthful grandmother of many. My children were in the regular education system for several years, and then were homeschooled while we traveled. At university I majored in economics, law and divinity. I have worked in higher levels of the civil service, in private business and in the healing arts. I have also provided executive protection for the families of well known people at festivals and concerts. In my current semi-retirement, I enjoy nature, hiking, cultural events, and social media. At UrbanSitter, I am mainly interested in short term assignments - movie nights, vacation help, children or adults recovering from illnesses or accidents, children needing brief tutoring or emotional support, and helping busy parents cope with the unexpected hurdles life sometimes throws when we're raising children.
