I am a registered nurse in a family birth center, and love to offer professional (non-medical) care for newborns at all hours of the day or night. I've recently joined Urban Sitter in order to supplement hours at work and protect my income in case of healthcare labor strikes. I am also mom to my own blended family of five kids, ages 16 down to 7, and can navigate the range of needs and emotions that school-age kids grapple with. I was born in Central Oregon and have lived in Portland for about 12 years (with a few stints in North Carolina. I graduated from Lewis & Clark College in 2012 with a degree in Rhetoric & Media Studies and a minor in Art/Art History. I have worked with children in many capacities throughout the years. Starting when I was 15 as a sitter to two toddlers, I have worn many hats since then. From swim instructor to recess coach, to 2nd grade teacher to Montessori PE teacher, I love finding joy and celebrating it! Currently I work as Assistant Dean of Admission at Reed College, but I will be leaving my job soon to begin school at PSU for a Masters in Sustainability Education. I have experience working with babies and toddlers in a childcare setting, elementary school-age children in a sleep-away camp setting, and high schoolers in a residential dorm setting. I have a compassionate and collaborative approach to conflict resolution that prioritizes sensitivity and empathy to anyone I'm interacting with. I've led children in arts and crafts, games, and intentional conversations, which would translate well into taking children to the playground, on walks, or helping with homework. My pet sitting experience so far as been with cats and dogs (check in visits, feeding, walks, and clean up), but I'm definitely open to working with other pets.
